ESPN and Dutch Ededivie has extended their long-term domestic TV rights deal for further 5 years taking their current contract to 2030 season. ESPN agreed to increase the yearly payment to €150 million (US$158 million) a season which will start from 2025/2026 season. That will significantly increase all Dutch top division clubs yearly earnings and we breakdown the entire deal and how much in total Dutch Eredivise will be making from both domestic and oversees TV & streaming rights.
Dutch Eredivisie Domestic TV Rights Deal:
Eredivisie signed an long-term TV deal with ESPN (then FoxSports which became ESPN with Disney’s merger of 21st Century Fox in 2019) back in 2012 where ESPN were paying only €80 million a year for entire domestic rights deal. The current deal was suppose to run out by end of 2025 and Eredivisie had other offers which were over €200 million a year but with consultation with clubs, they agreed to stay with ESPN for another 5 years even though the financial package was lower then what competitors offered. Trade off seems to be ESPN’s global appeal and long-term partnership.
